Frequently Asked Questions
Here you will find some questions that have been previously asked by clients, I try to add any new things that come up but look and see if your question is answered here.
How much does it cost?
Always important to establish at the start of your therapy, individual counselling costs £50 per session, relationship counselling £70 per session, EMDR Therapy £70 per session. All fees are payable at the beginning of each session, payment can be by card or BACS transfer (needs to be cleared by start od session), regrettably we do not accept cheques. We can discuss your personal situation when we meet.
Online counselling charges are as above but must be paid prior to the session commencing.
Various payment types accepted.
How long is the session?
Counselling sessions usually last for 50 minutes, some clients prefer weekly while some prefer longer between sessions. We can discuss your personal situation when we meet.
Is it confidential?
All therapy is carried out according to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice, which asks that confidentiality is maintained at all times. There are exceptions to this however. If following a session, I felt that you might cause harm to either yourself or another person then I would share my concerns with the appropriate authorities. If this happened and I felt there was a need to break our confidentiality, then I would always try to discuss this with you first.
What if I cancel or am late?
If you do need to cancel a session, then hopefully you would agree that its reasonable to require a minimum of 24 hours’ notice. If you cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, then the full price will be charged for the missed session. If you are late, then please still come, however I am sure you can see the session will need to finish at the usual time.
How many sessions will I need?
We will discuss your needs during our initial session as everyone is different, progress will be monitored and reviewed as we progress to ensure your therapy is relevant and working.
Where and when will my counselling take place?
I have two locations I currently use; my main therapy room is attached to my home in Cyncoed where I have on-road parking should you be arriving by car. My other rooms are in the Heath area of Cardiff again with ample parking.
Appointments are available daytime or early evening weekdays only.
First Session – This is where we can agree to work together, or not! If we do then it means that we have contracted. In practical terms we have agreed to meet together at an arranged time, usually for 50 minutes and in a safe, relaxed setting. It’s important to have a one-off session so you can see if you and your therapist fit well together.
Going Forward – my contracts are entirely 'open' meaning you are in control of how many therapy sessions you have, you can stop the counselling at any time without any prior notice if you feel its “right”. Because my counselling is collaborative, you are invited to discuss with me your goals for the therapy, so you will hopefully feel you can also discuss the progress.
This page is a work in progress project, not found the answer to your pressing question, email me, text me or actually call me and we can be sure you are totally happy with your answer and maybe adding it will help someone else.1
